During the last decades massive efforts have
been made to promote and develop
seabuckthorn. The benefits of this plant -
nitrogen fixation, multifarious use for
human nutrition, medicine, cosmetics, animal
feeding and environmental protection -
prompted a rich flood of scientific
publications and practical properties.
Nowadays, the foundation of the
International Seabuckthorn Association (ISA)
in New Delhi in 2001 can be considered as a
great step forward. Several international
meetings, held in Berlin, Beijing, Quebec
and Barnaul, provided a powerful exchange of
knowledge and co-operation. However, actual
developments in Europe show that there is
still a great demand for a science based
exchange of results and experiences.
Therefore the meeting intends to offer
another chance to broaden the international
co-operation within the seabuckthorn
society. It is our aim to start a new
European tradition of conferences being a
perfect intermediate and complement to the
ISA - conferences.
Furthermore, it is the expressed goal of the
organizers to promote seabuckthorn and to
develop international scientific as well as
commercial co-operation.

Objectives of the Conference
to assess the current status of
seabuckthorn research
to propagate new knowledge about medical
effects of seabuckthorn
to show new technologies for breading
varieties especially for European
cultivation conditions
to develop long term strategies in
scientific as well as in commercial cooperation

Main Themes of the meeting
medical and pharmaceutical use of
seabuckthorn
bioactive substances of seabuckthorn
new technologies for organic seabuckthorn
products
general knowledge on seabuckthorn, its
composition and application
international co-operation on
seabuckthorn
