Seabuckthorn - a unique medicinal and food plant

Seabuckthorn is the record-holder among medicinal plants in high content of vitamins, polyphenols, isoprenoids and other biologically active compounds. Biologically active principals interact with each other to exhibit synergistic effects. They normalize lipid, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. Hippophae oil is used in medicine in therapy of malignant tumors, in treatment of skin disorders, gynecological and gastric diseases, in normalizing the body immunity. It exhibits a high anti-microbial activity. The plant principals are useful as antioxidant and anti-X-ray agents. It is dificult to name a sphere of the medicine in which seabuckthorn products were useless. Seabuckthorn constituents can be easily combined with different biologically active substances to produce numerous useful pharmaceutical products with novel properties, food additives etc.
