Prof. Lu Rongsen, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

With large berries, high yield and good quality, Russian seabuckthorn varieties have been introduced to China for more than 20 years. Due to some shortcomings these varieties are limited in the north of N 46°in China. In order to overcome the disadvantages of Chinese varieties which have small berries and more thorns, some hybrids between Russian ones and Chinese ones have been made. The results of hybridization have shown that the Chinese varieties have been improved in larger berries, less thorns and higher field.
