Comparative efficacy of Seabuckthorn and Betadine ointments in the healing of cutaneous wounds in dogs.

Abstract:

Seabuckthorn and Betadine ointments were evaluated in the treatment of full thickness aseptic excisional cutaneous wounds in nine adult healthy mongrel dogs of either sex divided into three groups of three animals each.The animals of group I and II were treated by topical application of 50% seabuckthorn ointment and 5% betadine ointment respectively whereas the animals in group III served as control group and were treated by topical application of Liquid paraffin up to 28 days.The study revealed complete and extensive epithelialization and scar formation between 14th-18th DPT (Day posttreatment) in seabuckthorn and betadine treated groups as compared to control group. No change in Haematological parameterts was observed in all the groups. On the basis of Clinical signs , Healing appeared to be better in seabuckthorn and betadine treated groups as compared to control group.Groosly the signs of acute inflammatory reaction such as rubor,calor,dolar and swelling were less pronounced in the seabuckthor
