Current status of Hippophae rhamnoides L. in Uzbekistan

Flora Kabulova,

Sea-buckthorn were growing on the whole valley of the river Zarafshan in Uzbekistan. Long unsystematic use of natural brake, cutting down of a wood, unlimited grazing pressure, absence of protection and forest restoration measures caused to disturbance of reparian forest status.

At present, Zarafshan Nature Reserve is a unique place of plains of Uzbekistan, where still sea-buckthorn thicket available.

The reduction of Tugai vegetation has resulted in threat of disappearance of unique germplasm of zarafshan population of the sea-buckthorn. As a result of influence of the antropogeneous factors the productivity of natural brakes has decreased.

The most interesting investigation of seabuckthorn were initiated in the beginning of 80-th of the last century.

The resources of this plant in the territory of the Zarafshan Nature Reserve were investigated. Form diversity and some biological features were studied. Second phase of research includes investigation of the influence ecological conditions to growth, development and productivity of seabuckthorn.

The preliminary researches have shown, that despite of action of the antropogeneous factor sea-buckthorn still has a large diversity of the forms.

In connection with that sea-buckthorn is valuable, but unutilized medicinal and fruit species which is still under the strong antropogeneous pressure.

It is necessary to develop strategy and action plan on its conservation and sustainable use.
